The day I stopped being Human

Writing | Sound design & sculpture
June 2025

The title of this work doesn’t necessarily revolve around the story, but rather the process of getting to the story. After struggling to find my footing in life, and tearing myself apart for not meeting the expections of being a productive human, I decided to let go of all those rules, and stopped explicitly identifying as human. It allowed to me breathe again, and to not get angry at myself for small mistakes, be it social or otherwise. I finally found a way to let go.

The story itself revolves around a floating entity which doesn’t know what they are, only that the land doesn’t want them. They are given wind chimes from the sea, who asks them to find the chimes a suitable home. After hesitating, the entity decides to help and travels to find the wind, which made the chimes sing beautifully. The road to the wind not easy, she seems to always elude the entity. They ask the lights for help, but they’re too busy with their own thing. Not wanting to bother them, the entity traverses the darkness until they’re lost. Only when they’re found by the moon do they manage to overcome the dark forest and find the wind.

All music created for this project stems from language. The songs don’t follow any musical rules. I’ve designed various alphabetical configurations alongside a (to me) logical rule system to build the sound. This was my first step into this style of music design, and I’ve already learnt so much! I hope to improve in the future and build even more interesting sound.
